Too much for Sleep

Posted on Thursday, September 25th, 2008

Welcome to the Miles to Knowhere blog!  I am not surprised that my first entry is at 4:00 in the morning, but I had to get something up on here.   Things have been getting more and more exciting and the hours flying past like minutes.  It feels so great to be alive and take life in the direction I would hope it to go.  These past six weeks have been incredibly productive and feels as though there is never a moment when I am not thinking about the trip, preparations for the trip, or romancing the many thoughts of what we may experience.  The plan is to leave on Saturday afternoon.  There is so much to be done, but I’m amazed and thankful for the many people who have supported us, encouraged us and helped us prepare for the coming months.  Goodnight, it’s 4 in the morning…..and I can’t wait to turn another hour into a minute.

Hey there, kiddo — I’m waiting for you to come onto NPR (thanks to your mom who called me!) and reading this blog and CRYING MY EYES OUT. Wow, you are an amazing young man. I’m proud to have known you as you were growing up with your sweet brothers. I’m partial to oldest children (being one myself) and your unconditional love will be with them FOREVER! I am so envious of your trip. When I was 25 I packed up all my belongings in a 1966 VW bug and limped across the US, to live in upstate NY for 2 years. It was absolutely the best thing I’d ever done for myself. I really grew up because I had no choice. I suffered great joy and great sorrow and everything in between. Although I took my faith for granted in those days, I really learned how to depend on God for sustenance and subsistence. I can’t believe how poor I was and how unshackled I was with STUFF! I know you and Ammie will discover more and more joy with not being tied down. I work with organic farmers and will think of you as you travel through their lands. You chose the best time of year to begin your travels. Be sure to get warm clothes, though, because by mid-October you will get cold!!! TAKE CARE HUG YOURSELF AND I CAN’T WAIT TO KEEP READING THIS BLOG!
