The Oregon Coast

On Monday night after the Glendale show, we decided to head north and spend the night at an RV park in Sutherlin. We pulled up late and couldn’t help but notice our neighbors staring at us with smirks on their faces. I guess it’s obvious that we’re newbies and being in our 20’s doesn’t exactly help us fit in with the RV community. But we’re learning about leveling, converters, inverters, generators, sanitation and a ton of other stuff…..and we’re doing well.
The next morning, we filled up the RV and couldn’t believe that there are still places that pump your gas for you…..and the gas was cheaper! We couldn’t help but throw in a CD on top of the tip….and get a picture of our first full-service gas station experience. Oregon is great!
We spent that Tuesday afternoon at the Camping World in Junction City and once again, we lucked out receiving honest care from our friendly serviceman Robert. He changed up the oil, gave us directions to the next stop, and gave us some pointers from his experiences. Thank you Robert and everyone at that store. Then we headed off to Florence on the coast of Oregon. I was hoping to blog last night, but couldn’t get any service. That’s something that gets frustrating but is probably just a good forced break from the computer.
Is it too early to start worrying about the cold? Haha, really though, we had a run at the furnace last night and I realize it’s time to gear up on winter clothes. But truly, it’s been so sunny that every local has told us how lucky we are to soak up the rays this time of year.
We packed up this morning and Ammie was sweet enough to finish emptying our RV as I somehow keep managing to cut my hands during this process? She’s starting to think this might not be so accidental. It’s been so great being on the road with her and I admire her spirit and strength so much. Not to mention her cooking, driving, cleaning, listening, support and love. She’ll have her own blogs posted on here soon…….so keep checking back for those!
We drove up to the Tillamook Cheese Factory and grabbed some……cheese of course! We barley made it before the factory closed, but still had enough time to check out the production process and stock up on their goodies (ice cream)! So after the cheese tour we drove up to the northern tip of the Oregon coast and caught one of the most beautiful sunsets I have seen in my life. These pictures do not do it justice and I wish you could have all been with us for the experience.
We are playing in Astoria, Oregon tomorrow night at the Voodoo Room and are happy to be on All Kinds of Folk ~ KMUN 91.9FM tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. So, we made the drive up here to Fort Stevens State Park and I barely avoided hitting a deer as we were pulling into town. It was just yesterday that we were joking about not seeing any animals and I’d probably hit a deer as my first animal sighting. Good thing that was only almost accurate. This park is awesome! We got a lower rate because winter season started today and it’s mushroom picking season! We’re waking up early to search a bit before heading out to the interview. The ranger told us that we better make sure to identify them before we eat as the bad ones with “either kill you or make you think you’re seeing to God”. Hopefully we’ll just find the ones that complete a salad.
We were hoping to meet my dad for dinner, but unfortunately he flew into Portland later than expected and it would be too late to make the drive. Better luck next time Pops! I really need to express how helpful my father has been. He helped me design the website, load software, design my CD, give me directions and fix up the RV. Thank you. And, if you’re into airplanes, check out his books at the website www.aerovintage.com. I also wanted to take a second to thank Vinny. Most of the pictures on my blog are taken on a camera that he’s letting me use for the trip. I called him to recommend a good brand of digital camera and he’s letting me borrow on of his nice ones. Thank you!
Anyway, a storm is rolling in off the coast and I’m actually really excited about feeling rain again. I don’t think it’s rained in Sacramento since March and it’s long overdue. Coffee tastes better in the rain.

I’m so happy you guys are off to a great start! And I think it’s like, illegal to pump your own gas in Oregon. Well. doesn’t help me much in Sac any way so, whatever. And coffee tastes waaaaaayyyyyyy better in the rain. So do cigarettes. Let’s hope for my sake it rains on Friday (Evening) in Sacramento. Good Luck guys! Ginger says hi.
