That oh so stormy storm…..

Posted on Sunday, November 16th, 2008

I wanted to write and let everyone know that we’re still alive and well.  Soooooo much has happened since I last wrote and I apologize for not posting up sooner.  I hope I didn’t lose your interest in my last cliffhanger and I will do my best to get caught up early this week.  My stormy waters brought upon a lot of adventure and some of those small ripples turned into waves.

As I was leaving the campsite in Naples, Maine on 11/5 at six in the morning, I decided to fill some water before we left.  I hadn’t had my morning coffee and I have been increasingly confident about driving the RV.  I was backing up and somehow managed to prop the bumper against the side of a small (four inch diameter) tree.  I thought I would be able to just drive straight out, which I did, and soon found out that the sound of a fiberglass bumper splitting in half sounds exactly like a four inch tree breaking.  Needless to say, I wasn’t very happy and think my confidence suffered a breaking blow as well.

It could have been worse.....

It could have been worse.....

Ouch!

Ouch!

Stupid Tree!

Stupid Tree!

It could have been a lot worse and as luck would have it, we happened to be only 80 miles from one of the few Camping World stores that does body work.  We had to pick up Lucas in Connecticut later that evening and we were really worried we wouldn’t be able to make it.  But after a few hours and 128 ounces of resign (and a nice fee), we were on the road again!

So we headed down to Stamford, Connecticut to pick up Lucas at the train station.  We pulled into town around 11 p.m. and had a hard time finding the station.  Our nerves were already running high from the morning chaos and getting lost in a not-so-good part of town didn’t help.  Ammie was driving down a narrow street when we clipped a light pole and lost the side mirror.  As I was crying out in agony over accident #2, Ammie spotted a man with a gun and slammed on the brakes which sent me flying to the floor.  I grabbed the counter top to pull myself back to my feet, but unfortunately the counter gave way and ripped off in my hands.  In a matter of seconds we went from frustrated to freaking out!  I couldn’t believe how much was literally falling apart.  The guy with the gun drove away and we left quickly.  Lucas happened to be standing on the street just a few blocks away and climbed on board moments after the incident.  He quickly calmed us and his arrival couldn’t have come at a better time.

On our way back to the freeway, I decided it would be best to drive down the street where we the accident had just occurred in order to recover our mirror in hopes it could be salvaged.  As I drove down that long narrow street, I heard a loud crunch and laughed at the thought that it might be my mirror that I just crushed.  Well, it was.

We are all good now and I laugh out loud thinking about it.  Seriously, I’m laughing as I type this.  I will leave this blog on a more cheerful note with pictures from our NY trip the following day.  And I promise to catch up this week.  We played some incredible shows with Lucas on stage and have many more stories to share.

Oh my God Adam, I can only imagine what you and Ammie were thinking and feeling! ‘When it Rains, it Pours,’ eh?

I have had a time or two like that!

An old co-worker of mine used to always tell me “IN A PERFECT WORLD”………I hated when she said that. I know it isn’t a ‘perfect world,’ but hey, I sure try to make it that way.

I am glad you guys are safe!
    Take’em easy! Thanks for sharing!

    Hi Guys,

I got a kick out of this one…As you know we have a motorhome and two weeks ago were meeting friends for a weekend of riding and managed to jack knife our MC trailer into our motorhome. The same weekend a friend of mine also did the same thing. The motorhome is fine but the trailer needs some repairs. We have also scraped the side of the MH on a street sign, whacked the closed awning on a tree, jackknifed a different trailer into the back corner and chipped out a chunk of fiberglass. Just remember it is the motorhomes fault…

Anyhow don’t worry and enjoy your trip!!!

You know what is hilarious? As soon as I hit the button for ‘Blog’ I had a feeling it was going to be a really weird story. Good times. Glad you guys are okay and you should’ve kept some of that tree to create a weapon for the rest of your trip. Hey, you might actually need it. haha

    Okay kids. Have fun. xoxo
